Germany OASIS self-exclusion program has gained significant traction since its launch. Nearly 350,000 registrations highlight its role in promoting responsible gambling.

Here’s what you need to know about how it works and its impact.

What Is the OASIS Program?

Launched in July 2021, OASIS helps you take control of your gambling habits. It’s part of Germany State Treaty on Gambling, rolled out alongside the country’s legal online gambling market.

The program lets you voluntarily block yourself from gambling sites, ensuring you stick to your decision.

You can choose different exclusion periods, from a quick 24-hour break to a ban lasting over 10 years. The flexibility makes it easy to tailor the program to your needs. If you opt for a long-term ban, you’ll need to wait until the period ends before gambling again.

By the end of July 2025, OASIS recorded 336,980 registrations. Some users sign up multiple times, so the number of unique individuals may be lower. Still, the figures show strong engagement.

You have several choices when signing up:

  • One-year ban: The most popular option, chosen by 182,057 users.
  • Short-term ban: Under one year, selected by 49,168 users, with a minimum of three months.
  • Long-term ban: Over 10 years, picked by 22,381 users.
  • 24-hour break: Used by 40,358 players in July 2025 alone, automatically lifting after a day.

Most users (97%) sign up themselves, while 3% are referred by third parties, like family or support services. Third-party referrals come with a mandatory 12-month exclusion.

New sign-ups remain steady, with 7,300 to 9,600 users joining monthly over the past year. Meanwhile, cancellations have dropped, from 7,404 in August 2024 to 2,821 in July 2025. This suggests more people are sticking with their decision to pause gambling.

The self-exclusion data comes alongside insights into Germany’s gambling market. In Q1 2025, total gambling stakes (excluding lotteries) reached €3.51 billion. Sports betting led with €2.18 billion, followed by virtual slots at €1.1 billion and online poker at €204 million.

In Q2, stakes dipped by 8.3% to €3.22 billion. Sports betting remained dominant at €1.89 billion, virtual slots held steady at €1.12 billion, and online poker dropped slightly to €184 million.

Why It Matters

Germany OASIS empowers you to manage your gambling responsibly. Whether you need a short break or a longer pause, the program offers tools to fit your situation. Its growing popularity shows that many in Germany are taking steps to gamble safely.
