Later this month, an upgrade will be put into place that will prevent anything that advertises “unapproved” gaming websites and introduce age restrictions for gambling-related content.
YouTube recently declared that it will be cracking down on gambling and associated content, with a particular focus on promoting “unapproved” gambling websites. Although the new policies’ specifics were revealed on Tuesday of this week, their implementation is anticipated to be finished by the middle of March.
YouTube Revives Policies Concerning Gambling
Legal sports betting has grown nationwide after the US Supreme Court invalidated PASPA in 2018. The majority of 33 states allow legal internet betting, out of nearly 40 that permit it. On the other hand, less than ten states allow legal internet casino gambling, and event contracts—betting on actual events—are becoming more and more popular.
Lawmakers believe that strict rules are necessary to protect consumers in light of the nationwide growth of gaming. In an effort to shield Americans from risky or problematic gambling, websites like YouTube are also concentrating on limiting specific kinds of information.
According to CNN, YouTube will be enforcing new rules that forbid content that links users to “unapproved” gambling websites or applications. According to the revised guidelines, such content will not be allowed on the site, regardless of whether it contains text, photographs, links, logos, or verbal support.
The previously banned information that advertised guaranteed casino or betting winners has been supplemented by the new regulations. It should come as no surprise that YouTube forbids the use of “sensational language” that suggests gambling can bring in money.
According to its latest upgrade, even on “approved” gaming websites, content that contains wording that promises “guaranteed returns” will not be allowed.

Age Restrictions Are Included in the Update
Notably, the upgrade will assist in preventing content that encourages gambling or betting websites from being viewed by minors and those whose age has not been confirmed.
The new upgrade will prevent users under the age of 18 who have registered on YouTube and have not signed into their profile from viewing video that might be endorsing gambling or casino websites.
It is anticipated that the aforementioned revised policy will go into effect on March 19, 2025.
Regarding the most recent change, YouTube spokesperson Boot Bullwinkle stated: “We’ve strengthened our policies that prohibit content directing viewers to unapproved gambling websites or applications.” “We will also begin age-restricting content that promotes online casinos,” the representative concluded.
Enforcing its policies is one of the biggest problems facing social media sites like YouTube. In many situations, a thorough assessment is necessary, while in others, infractions are simply detected and content is immediately removed or punished in accordance with the policies.
Social media companies typically use artificial intelligence (AI) and other automated technologies to support proactive content monitoring. This enables them to promptly identify possible rule violations and apply the appropriate punishments.
