Unibet will become the first title sponsor of the Tour de Tietema-Unibet cycling team in 2025.
The new multi-year arrangement, which marks a key milestone in their quest of one day riding the Tour de France, will see the team ride under a French licence in 2025 as Unibet Tietema Rockets.
They become the first professional cycling team with a ‘franchise’ moniker, and they plan to build on their first WorldTour events at the Amstel Gold Race and the Renewi Tour in 2024.
Bas Tietema, a former professional rider and YouTuber, runs the initiative with business partners Josse Wester and Devin van der Wiel.
Tietema remarked on X: “It feels like only yesterday that Devin, Josse, and I began this project of forming our own cycling team. We had nothing except our ambitions and vision, and we surrounded ourselves with partners and others who shared our beliefs.”
The squad also just revealed that it has successfully changed its nationality from Dutch to French.
“After two very successful years for the TDT-Unibet ProTeam, the UCI ProTeam will continue as the Unibet Tietema Rockets,” said the PRT level squad in a statement on their website.
“With Unibet stepping forward as the club’s first naming partner in a new multi-year arrangement, the Unibet Tietema Rockets will be the first professional cycling team to have a franchise name. This improvement is a significant step toward the team’s maiden Tour de France participation.”
Meanwhile, Tietema highlighted that every cycling team begins with ‘that one desire’ of racing in the Tour de France.
He said, “We have been working toward that dream for a long time and have most likely already exceeded many people’s expectations.” We are really proud of our progress thus far, and we are now taking a huge step toward realizing those ambitions.”
