This is history in the making! Wynn Resorts secure the first-ever commercial casino gaming license (land-based) in the United Arab Emirates on October 4th, 2024. The license was issued by the General Commercial Gaming Regulatory Authority (GCGRA) and it marks a chapter for the country’s iGaming sector.
The company is already doing business in UAE by building the Wynn Al Marjan Island Resort, based in Ras Al Khaimah (RAK), UAE. Their project in RAK is a collaboration between affiliates of Wynn Resorts, RAK Hospitality Holding and Marjan.
The company did a press release on Friday and stated “We are under way with the construction of our resort in Ras Al Khaimah and look forward to being a key partner in the development of its tourism economy”. It also thanked GCGRA for approving the license and for the “confidence and trust”.
MGM is not staying away from this, as they stated trough their CEO, Bill Hornbuckle that MGM Resorts had applied as well for license in 19 September. Their project will be based in Abu Dhabi.
1000+ Hotel Rooms and a Gaming Floor
Wynn project is scheduled to open in 2027 and it is valued to be a multi-billion dollar investment. Al Marjan Island is located at 45 minutes from Dubai International Airport and 15 minutes from Ras Al Khaimah Airport. Dubai., the largest city from UAE is at 105 Km away.
More than 1000 hotel rooms will be available for guests, also shopping centers and restaurants.
Of course the Gaming floor will be present as well.
“A pristine setting” – Was Craig Billings word when he referred to the man-made island of Al Marjan.
He also stated that it is “an ideal greenfield location for us to create a one of a kind guest experiences”
Wynn’s history in buliding luxury resorts was an important aspect
Abdulla Al Abdooli, Chief Executive of Marjan, shared his enthusiasm about working with Wynn. And he believes that the company’s history in developing integrated resorts should help the new venue to attract tourists to the site.

“By leveraging Wynn Resorts’ expertise in developing luxury hospitality destinations, the new development will raise the benchmark in luxury hospitality in the region. It will also create exceptional value to the Ras Al Khaimah economy and boost the leisure, business and MICE tourism sectors.”
