Thibaut Courtois, a Real Madrid footballer, has founded TC Esports.

According to a press statement, the organization will first enter the sim racing sector. Details about rosters and which events the new organization would play in have not been revealed.

The unveiling of the esports squad follows the 2023 launch of TC Racing, a real-life racing team founded by the Belgian and now competing in the F4 Spanish Championship. TC Racing also participates in the Prodigy Racing League, a ‘e2Real’ motorsport tournament that mixes simulation and live racing.

Courtois has previously competed in various simulated racing events, most notably in Virtual F1, an online race hosted by Formula 1 during the COVID-19 epidemic that featured F1 drivers and celebrity visitors.

Javier Guerra, the Director of Marketing and Gaming at TC Racing, will join the two-time Champions League winner in his new esports business. Guerra formerly led Williams Racing’s esports unit, Williams Esports, from 2018 to his departure earlier this year.

When asked about the development of TC Esports, Courtois remarked, “I have two simulators at home that I use on a regular basis when football allows it. After competing in a number of sim racing tournaments and events, esports gained popularity. That is why I have always wanted to start my own esports team, because sim racing may lead to opportunities in the world of motorsports, which is something we want to bet on at TC Racing.”

Courtois has previously gone into the esports market. The player is also an investor in Spanish esports organization DUX Gaming, first joining as a stakeholder in 2020 and then participating in a €3 million (~£2.6 million) fundraising round in 2022.

Courtois joins a long list of footballers who have founded their own esports organizations by launching TC Esports. Other well-known examples are Gerard Pique, who co-founded KOI alongside Spanish broadcaster Ibai, Sergio Aguero’s Argentine-based KRÜ Esports, and Casemiro’s Case Esports.
