The Singapore casino control upgrade went into effect on Wednesday (October 30). It has a few clauses in Singapore’s recently passed Casino Control (Amendment) Act 2024, which was approved by the city-state’s parliament on September 10.
The Ministry of Home Affairs said in a press statement on Tuesday that the modified act would: “Enhance the operational effectiveness of our casino regulatory regime; tighten the regulation of the casinos and licensees; strengthen protection for vulnerable groups; and regularise the casino entry levies collected from 4 April to 7 May 2024.”
Resolving an administrative overlap, Singapore casino control upgrade was mentioned in the latter. Between those dates, the entrance fees for Singapore’s two casinos have dropped back to their previous, lower level for both citizens and permanent residents.

The change reinstates the parliament’s initial plan for casino entry fees to be SGD 150 (currently $113 USD) per day and SGD 3,000 annually.
Changes to operational rules to allow cashless gaming were also mentioned during the second reading of the then-bill in September. The press release on Tuesday regarding the bill’s implementation did not mention that.
During the August first reading, other updates were discussed, such as allowing the city’s two casino operators to exchange customer information without the approval of the patrons in order to combat money laundering, terrorism financing, and the financing of weapons proliferation.
The remaining elements under the modified statute “will be operationalized at a later date,” according to the notification made on Tuesday.
Resorts World Sentosa, operated by Genting Singapore Ltd., and Marina Bay Sands, run by a division of Las Vegas Sands Corp., share a duopoly in Singapore’s casino industry.
