One fortunate gambler received a quarter of a million pounds in their account after betting on Cheltenham Festival.
The first of two fortunate winners of £250,000 will be announced by BetMGM after the 2025 Cheltenham Festival concludes.
At this year’s Cheltenham Festival, Steve from County Durham won the first of two BetMGM £250,000 freebies after placing a qualifying wager of £2 with the online bookmaker.

Steve from County Durham, the first person to win £250,000 from BetMGM, stated: “I’m still sitting here wondering if this is real. It hasn’t sunk in.” I’ll probably repeat the same thing until the money is in the bank.
“I’ve always dabbled; I’m not a big bettor, but I enjoy a little flutter. Every year, we celebrate the Grand National with a family day.
“On the first day [of Cheltenham], I was free from work and went to Sedgefield Racecourse with a friend. I bet on football and horse racing through BetMGM. When I saw the £500,000 giveaway in the offers on BetMGM, I thought, “Why not? You never know!” which is why it’s such a huge surprise. They had the large screen up for the live races.
“I believe that a portion of it will go toward my retirement fund—I’m saving for retirement, so this will likely go toward investments for that—but another portion will likely go toward paying off some auto loans and doing some home remodeling.”
