The experience of casino operators in Cambodia, Laos, and even Macau can provide some insight into the potential attractiveness of slot machines to Thai gamers who may frequent casinos if they are developed in Thailand.
Ken Jolly, vice president and managing director for Asia at casino equipment provider Light & Wonder Inc., shared this viewpoint.
He was presenting on a panel at the Thai Entertainment Complex Summit in Bangkok, Thailand, a meeting of industry executives to examine the potential future of the casino resort business if it is legalized in the nation. This might happen in terms of basic law as early as the autumn of next year.

According to Mr. Jolly, Thai client slot gambling is common in venues across Cambodia, Laos, and nearby regions, including Singapore.
The manger continued: “We also happen to know that the Thai play that goes to Macau is quite strong as well.”
In terms of foreign-customer sectors for slots in a potential Thai casino industry, Mr Jolly said that Thailand’s immediate southern neighbor, Malaysia, which already has customers playing slots in Singapore’s duopoly market, is an important source market for general tourism to Thailand.
Shaun McCamley, founder and managing partner of Euro Asia Pacific Consulting Ltd, has held senior managerial positions in the Vietnam casino business, including at The Grand Ho Tram Resort.
His perspective was that Thai players in Vietnam were primarily table game players.
Mr McCamley stated, “We didn’t really consider Thailand as a market for slot play. Our focus was always on premium players and the upper end, which was significant.”
