Svenska Spel claimed that 94 percent of its SEK1.97 billion (£144 million/US$177 million) income in the third quarter of 2024, which ended September 30, came from players who bet sensibly and are classified as low-risk.
This marks a 0.7 percentage point gain over the previous quarter and demonstrates the company’s continued commitment to encouraging responsible gaming.
The Swedish betting firm continues to prioritize long-term growth by decreasing revenue from high-risk consumers.
Anna Johnson, President and CEO of Svenska Spel, said, “Our goal is to balance growth with responsibility, ensuring long-term sustainability in our operations.“
The technique for this computation is based on risk models included into Svenska Spel’s Playscan analytical tool, which examines customers’ gaming behaviors and assigns a risk rating, with earnings from low-risk users classified as “healthy.”
Looking ahead, Svenska Spel plans to implement more steps intended at improving consumer safety, which is projected to boost its share of healthy income.

Responsible Gambling Initiatives
In keeping with its commitment to responsible gaming, Svenska Spel’s independent research council has donated SEK 5.9 million (£431,600) to seven gambling addiction research projects. This project promotes long-term research initiatives to reduce compulsive gambling.
Svenska Spel also sponsored the Nordic Network Meeting in August, which brought together state-owned gaming enterprises from around the Nordic area.
The seminar focused on responsible gaming and ESG (Environment, Social, Governance) problems, with the purpose of improving sustainability efforts across the industry.
From September to December, Svenska Spel will conduct a statewide tour of Swedish Hockey League (SHL) clubs to teach players, managers, and referees about gambling issues and match-fixing, as part of the company’s larger drive to promote sports integrity and accountability.
“We are constantly developing the measurement method, and thanks to a good collaboration with our Poker supplier, we were able to calibrate the measurement of income from that game even further,” said Svenska Spel Responsible Gambling Specialist Axel Lyckberg.
“It had a little but favorable impact on the computation of the share of healthy income. This also applies to the outcomes from prior quarters.”
