After being licensed in 2010, a casino could finally open in Japan, with Princess Hotels and Resorts of Spain hoping to build a gaming floor by the fourth quarter of 2025.
Princess Managing Director, Enrico Pezzoli, stated, “Princess is thrilled to be the first in Jamaica to offer a full-service casino where guests can enjoy a state-of-the-art gaming area as well as world-class food and beverage. Construction has already begun, and we want to open our casino in the fourth quarter of 2025. These two resorts promise to enhance Jamaica’s all-inclusive experience and attract more tourists than ever before.”
Hon Edmund Bartlett, Minister of Tourism, praised the launch of the first casino and congratulated Princess Hotels and Resorts’ owner, Roberto Cabrera Plana, and his family “on the great investment that they have made here in Jamaica.”
Dr. Andrew Holness, Prime Minister, described the resort as “one of the most beautiful hotels that I have seen,” and the fact that every room has a view of the sea “is a major selling point,” with the architects doing an incredible job.
Delano Seiveright, Senior Adviser and Strategist in the Ministry of Tourism, told the Jamaica Gleaner that if everything goes as planned, the casino at Princess Grand Jamaica will be open by mid to late 2025.

Princess Hotels, which manages a cluster of hotels on Green Island near Negril, received an Approved Integrated Resort Development Order (AIRD) from the Ministry of Finance in March 2024, allowing it to apply for a casino gaming license.
Last month, Princess Hotels & Resorts debuted two premium all-inclusive properties: Princess Senses The Mangrove and Princess Grand Jamaica. This is the Spanish hotel and resort empire’s first opening in Jamaica. The resorts, located in a mangrove cove on Green Island, provide spectacular ocean-front views and the relaxing quiet of mild Caribbean Sea waves. Guests at the resorts can enjoy cutting-edge culturally correct eateries, exquisite spa treatments, and limitless activities to keep everyone entertained. The resort is 34 miles from Montego Bay Airport, and guests can take a picturesque drive through the island for a new view on what Jamaica has to offer.
“Our workforce is the heart of Princess Hotels and Resorts Jamaica, and we are happy to hire locals who add fresh perspectives and warmth to our service. We are not only developing a resort; we are creating a culture of luxury and personalized care that will take every guest experience to new heights,” said Marc Pelfort, regional director of sales and marketing at Jamaica Princess Hotels & Resorts. “As we celebrate this grand opening, we look forward to establishing Princess Hotels and Resorts Jamaica as a premier destination in the Caribbean.”
“Jamaica is an ideal location for Princess Hotels & Resorts to develop its offerings. The resorts are not only attractive, but they were designed with planned infrastructure to be as sustainable as possible. We have pledged to local environmentalists to conserve the valuable mangroves that our resorts are built around, and we will conduct educational programs for children about how the mangroves work,” General Manager Enrico Pezzoli stated. “Additionally, we are completely self-sufficient with electricity, natural gas and water that we produce through wells, which provides a more consistent quality and ability to self-sustain in case of bad storms.”
Princess Hotels & Resorts’ two new resorts represent the largest investment in Jamaican history by an overseas firm. In addition to the two properties, Princess Hotels & properties is developing staff facilities that will house up to 450 employees. When occupancy levels reach about 1,600 employees, Princess Hotels & Resorts expects one-third to live on-site, offering an excellent incentive program to inspire and retain employees.
