The Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) today restated its support for the country’s Special Class Business Process Outsourcing (SCBPO) companies, citing the sector’s contributions to the creation of thousands of high-quality jobs for Filipino workers.
PAGCOR Chairman and CEO Alejandro H. Tengco also told the country’s foreign chambers of commerce that the state gaming company will continue to advocate for SCBPOs and their expanding activities in the Philippines.
“We recognize the immense contribution of the SCBPOs in creating thousands of jobs for our countrymen, and we thank our foreign investors for recognizing the unique talent of our workers who provide excellent outsourced services for them,” says Mr. Tengco.
The PAGCOR chief noted that SCBPOs are similar to traditional BPOs that assist company operations in other countries, but they are licensed by PAGCOR since they serve gaming enterprises in other nations.
“The only difference from regular BPOs is that SCBPOs support the operations of legitimate gaming companies overseas, many of which are listed firms, by providing human resource, marketing, graphic design, accounting and other back office work,” says Mr. Tengco.
“We also make sure that the SCBPOs are not directly engaged in gaming operations such as taking or soliciting bets,” says Mr. Tengco.

To date, the SCBPO sector employs about 5,000 local workers, with intentions to grow both operations and local recruiting because the foreign principals who operate the SCBPO enterprises believe Filipinos are especially competent.
SCBPOs are required to hire Filipinos for at least 95% of their total workforce, offering quality job opportunities for local people while also paying above industry standards.
“This industry has so much potential, and we are fully committed to its growth and capability to generate more employment for our people,” says Mr. Tengco.
