The big question we have: Where will the iGaming industry move its communications after Skype is Shutting Down?
Skype, the video chatting network that made headlines in the early 2000s, may soon be shutting down. While the program isn’t as popular as it once was, Microsoft estimates that more than 36 million people use Skype on a regular basis to communicate with friends, family, and coworkers.
According to XDA, the current version of Skype preview contains a concealed string of text that reads “Starting in May, Skype will no longer be available; continue your calls and chats in Teams.” According to the magazine, this was followed by a notification stating that a specific percentage “of your friends have already moved to Teams free.”
Microsoft has yet to make an official statement, but in recent months, the Redmond-based business has hinted that it is no longer interested in Skype. Microsoft discontinued the sale of credits for Skype lines in December of last year, allowing users to contact anybody in any place.

Skype, which was created in 2003, quickly became one of the most popular Voice over Internet Protocol (VOIP) systems of all time before being bought by Microsoft in 2011 for a record $8.5 billion. Since then, the tech behemoth has reinvented Skype many times to compete with iMessage, as well as attempted to combine it with its own products such as Windows, the now-defunct Windows phones, and Xbox.
Microsoft has been attempting to resuscitate Skype in recent years by experimenting with and releasing new features such as Skype Clips, as well as integrating Copilot AI last year. However, as the corporation failed to popularize the service during the COVID-19 epidemic, it has been mainly ignored.
Microsoft did, however, leverage Skype to create Teams, a new tool aimed to improve workplace collaboration.
