Seven new instances of advertising violations have kept the Dutch gaming authority busy in the first few weeks of the year.
The Kansspelautoriteit (KSA) reported that the issued violations were related to marketing campaigns that had the potential to influence young people, a target group that the KSA closely guards due to a higher risk of problem gambling among its members, with an updated young people protections framework coming into force in 2025.
One of the examples was the result of a collaboration between an undisclosed operator and a partner organization, both of which were involved in the organization of a specific motorsport event.
A automobile during the event featured the gambling provider’s emblem. However, it was not removed after the event, and the automobile was spotted with the emblem on public roads, according to a KSA investigation. This was a sort of non-targeted advertising.

In another occasion, the brand of a land-based gaming location was digitally marketed on screens in a public gym, which is another popular hangout for young people. Following receipt of a signal, the KSA issued a warning, which was later followed by all parties involved.
In a third instance, an igaming provider used both an actor and cartoon characters on their website. According to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, actors are role models who can affect youngsters, whilst cartoon characters can impact the youngest demographic.
According to the KSA, a number of suppliers showcased their sports betting offering in time for Formula One in an attempt to make the employment of a role model more subtle elsewhere.
According to the authority, the promotional campaign made veiled references to Formula One driver Max Verstappen. While no photographs of Verstappen were used, the KSA claims that his name was mentioned to in different puns and other graphic components, giving the impression of an endorsement.
The KSA further guaranteed that all warnings had been issued to the appropriate parties and were being followed.
