The Dutch gaming authority, Kansspelautoriteit (KSA), has fined Optdeck Service Ltd, also known as Unibet, €400,000.
According to the regulator, the betting company permitted the registration of players who were listed on the Netherlands’ national self-exclusion registry CRUKS.
The plan works in the same way as other comparable projects across Europe, in that once a player is registered in the system, licensed gambling providers are required by law to refuse them any sort of gambling service, whether physical or online.

An notice was issued to the KSA in mid-2023 that Unibet had failed to do the requisite inspections during the 2022 World Cup, which was validated by the regulator’s subsequent inquiry. According to official sources, Optdeck has not appealed the fine.
CRUKS is an essential component of the Dutch gambling industry. To guarantee that this continues, the KSA has previously conducted a series of marketing initiatives aimed at increasing public knowledge of the scheme.
The most recent one occurred earlier this month, when the regulator used a variety of marketing tactics across social media sites to largely appeal to a younger demographic.
