Jeju’s Gongzi Casino suspended. According to recent news, Gongzi Casino on Jeju Island, South Korea, has been closed since Sunday, November 3.
By year’s end, the Ramada Plaza by Wyndham Jeju Ocean Front, the hotel where the casino is located, is scheduled to close for renovations and a rebranding.
An official from the Jeju Special Self-Governing Province and a hotel employee independently confirmed the closure of the foreigner-only casino. On Sunday and Monday, no one was picking up the phone at Gongzi Casino itself.
For the existing hotel, media confirmed that reservations made through the Ramada brand’s reservation system are not available after December 31.

A Jeju government official told media over the phone on Monday that the local authorities had determined that a “proper reason” under the island’s present licensing system was the suspension of activities at Gongzi Casino while the host hotel was being renovated. As a result, Gongzi’s casino license for Jeju would stay in effect until the hotel there reopens, at the very least.
After the renovation, media representatives have not been able to determine whether the operator of Gongzi Casino will try to reopen the hotel.
According to the source, Gongzi Casino had told the Jeju government that it had no intention of moving its gambling operations to a different location while the hotel was being renovated.
Due to the ban, there are now only seven active foreigner-only casinos on Jeju Island, down from eight on Sunday.
In 2017, Gongzi Casino opened in the Ramada location.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism reports that 4,129 distinct individuals played at Gongzi Casino in 2023, generating KRW1.19 billion in gaming income (about US$863,200 at the moment).
