The Isle of Man Gambling Supervision Commission has announced the hiring of Mark Rutherford as its new CEO.
His responsibilities include overseeing and maintaining the Isle of Man’s regulatory standards for gambling and medicinal cannabis, as well as ensuring the integrity, openness, and efficacy of the Island’s regulatory structure, therefore protecting both the sector’s reputation and consumer protection.
Mr Rutherford has been with the Isle of Man GSC for 15 years and has held a variety of positions in the Island’s public sector, including the Income Tax Division before becoming Director of Policy and Legislation.

Mark Rutherford stated, “I am grateful to the GSC Board for their confidence in me as CEO.” I have lived and worked in the Isle of Man in both the private and public sectors, and my responsibility as a public servant has been to serve the Isle of Man. I am dedicated to ensuring that gaming and medicinal cannabis cultivation are effectively, transparently, and securely regulated on the island.
“There is a significant potential to enhance the Isle of Man’s defences against financial crime, and I am beginning on an ambitious reform agenda to increase our capabilities to monitor and regulate the gaming business. I collaborate with partner organizations to identify potential threats to the gaming industry on the island.It is critical that we continue to examine and change our strategy to keep current with developing concerns, such as growing risks and typologies resulting from specific markets. I’ll be actively monitoring such dangers to ensure that we’re aware of them and managing the risk.
“I will also enhance our international cooperation and internal inter-agency collaboration, and the GSC will continue to play a role in the network of authorities that identify and stop illegal activities on the Island. As worldwide standards for combating financial crime grow, it’s crucial to preserve alignment.
