The Hong Kong Jockey Club announced today (10 February) the appointment of Mr James Bidlake as Executive Director, Legal and Compliance (EDLC), from 24 February 2025.
Mr. Bidlake will succeed Ms Shella Ng, the current EDLC, who has opted to depart the Club on May 5, 2025, after completing her tenure.
Mr. Bidlake will join the Board of Management and report directly to the Club’s CEO, Mr. Winfried Engelbrecht-Bresges.
Mr. Bidlake, as EDLC, will manage the Legal and Compliance Division, which is responsible for the Club’s and its subsidiaries’ legal and compliance activities, as well as assisting to preserve the Club’s rights, branding, and reputation. Additionally, he will serve as the Club’s Company Secretary.
Mr. Bidlake is a seasoned legal counsel with over 25 years of legal and regulatory compliance expertise in Asia.

Prior to joining the Club, Mr Bidlake served as DFS Group’s Group General Counsel and Executive Vice President, where he was in charge of managing legal and regulatory risk throughout the worldwide organization.

He has previously held legal leadership positions at Morgan Stanley, Citigroup Investment Banking Division in Hong Kong, and Simmons & Simmons in London and Hong Kong.
Mr Bidlake possesses a Bachelor of Arts Honours degree from Exeter University in the United Kingdom. He also passed the Common Professional Examination (CPE) and the Legal Practice Course (LPC) at the University of Law in the United Kingdom.
