Following an examination that uncovered social responsibility and anti-money laundering shortcomings, the UK Gambling Commission (UKGC) fined online gambling company Football Pools Limited £375,000.
Between September 2022 and August 2023, the breaches took place
“This case shows that the Licensee’s approach to anti-money laundering risk profiling and monitoring was inadequate, allowing high-risk customers to continue gambling before completing necessary enhanced due diligence checks,” stated Commission Director of Enforcement John Pierce.

Additionally, the licensee relied too much on financial alerts, which prevented large losses but prevented it from promptly interacting with some clients who might have been suffering from other indicators of gambling-related harm, such as high velocity expenditure and time spent gambling.
“The Commission will take further action if these standards are not maintained, even though it is acknowledged that the Licensee has made the necessary improvements after the compliance assessment was completed.”
