Despite their chart battle, Drake was caught vibing to Sabrina Carpenter’s “Espresso” while playing Stake in a rented club, leaving fans wondering if it’s a gambling issue or savvy marketing.
Rapper Drake and pop icon Sabrina Carpenter may be dueling on the charts, with their albums recently ranking at No. 1 and No. 2 on the Billboard 200, but there is no evidence of enmity between them.
In a viral video on X, Drake is seen enjoying Carpenter’s hit “Espresso” while utilizing the online gambling site Stake in what appears to be a rented-out club.
The clip was first published by an Instagram user and includes the caption, “@champagnepapi booked out our club and is playing Stake on a Tuesday. “This guy is different, man.”
Drake is shown lounging in a white robe, playing a simulated slot machine on the club’s giant screens and winning a few bets.
Is it a good Marketing Strategy?
Fans were divided on the clip, with some interpreting it as “a cry for help” given his gambling ventures, others criticizing him for wasting his wealth, and still others supporting his unusual way of winding down or praising it as a “W” (win) and “brilliant marketing” for Stake, similar to last month’s viral drone stunt in Australia.
The 38-year-old then threw an orange sandal at a hovering drone near his Crown Sydney condominium.
The video began with the GRAMMY winner’s laptop open to Stake, prompting many fans to call it a marketing gimmick.
Drake was observed stepping out onto his high-rise balcony on the 60th level as soon as he noticed the drone, tossing the famed sandal at it.
However, his displeasure in the video appeared to be fabricated, since his caption read, “The stakes are huge. But so am I,” mentioning the casino’s name and implying that the footage was manufactured.

Beef with Kendrick Lamar
The new rental club/Sabrina Carpenter controversy is linked to his continuing battle with Kendrick Lamar, who has often criticized the “Hotline Bling” rapper’s alleged gambling habits.
On “Meet the Grahams,” Lamar specifically attacks Drake’s mother, rapping, “I’m blamin’ you for all his gamblin’ addictions.”
Later in the song, the rapper doubles down and confronts Drake with, “You got gamblin’ problems, drinkin’ problems, pill-poppin’ and spendin’ problems.”
Drake, on the other hand, has a public sponsorship arrangement with Stake and frequently discloses his betting picks ahead of important sporting events.
Meanwhile, Carpenter has a personal connection to him, having covered his song “Hold On, We’re Going Home” in a 2020 Elle interview.
Drake also surprised fans by announcing that he will postpone the remaining dates of his 2025 Anita Max Win Tour.
Last month, internet sensation Bobby Saptura pulled a similar marketing ploy, renting out a nightclub to reportedly cope with the sadness caused by a recent separation.
While there, he was observed eating many of his brand’s burgers.
