New York’s mobile sports betting GGR dropped 3.7% year-on-year in September, despite a 2.3% rise in total handle to $1.80 billion. DraftKings led the market with $69.7 million in revenue.
Mobile sports betting gross gaming revenue (GGR) in New York fell year on year in September, despite the Empire State claiming a rise in handle.
The total sports betting handle in New York in September was $1.80 billion (£1.38 billion/€1.65 billion). This is a 2.3% increase from last year and 25.0% ahead of August this year.
The New York State Gaming Commission released data this week that showed GGR in September was $159.4 million. The monthly total is down 3.7% year on year, but 27.5% higher than August.
This resulted in an 8.86% statewide hold for the month.
DraftKings remains the one to beat.
In terms of individual operators, DraftKings continues to lead the pack. In September, DraftKings made $69.7 million in revenue off a $788.3 million handle, leaving an 8.84% hold.
FanDuel, owned by Flutter, came in second again, with $52.6 million in income from $511.6 million in total bets. Hold was 10.28%.
Caesars was the next closest contender, with $13.0 million from a $147.2 million handle, representing an 8.83% hold. BetMGM was next with $10.3 million from a $143.9 million handle, or a 7.16% hold.
Fanatics earned $8.4 million in income from $143.2 million in bets, resulting in a 5.87% hold. Rush Street Interactive generated $3.5 million in revenue off a $43.4 million handle, or an 8.06% hold. Next, Bally Bet generated $1.1 million in revenue from $10.7 million, or a 10.28% hold, while Resorts World produced GGR of $606,436 off $6.6 million in handling, representing a 9.19% hold.
A busy start for ESPN Bet in New York.
ESPN Bet, which went live in New York on September 27th, completes the market.
In its first four days of operation, it made $103,273 in income on $4.0 million in total bets, with a 2.57% hold. Penn Interactive joined the market with ESPN Bet after acquiring the Wynn Interactive licence last month. Wynn left the market in July.
During its first full week of operations in New York, ESPN Bet’s daily handle per user was 296% more than in any other state where it operates. The ESPN Bet platform is currently available in 19 US jurisdictions.
