The Parliamentary Inquiry Commission on Bets (CPIBETS) created in November to investigate online betting, will reconvene after the Brazilian Carnival holiday — March 8.
According to the commission’s head, Senator Dr. Hiran, the group’s work has not stopped, and the team is focused on analyzing the papers received and the financial transactions of the individuals under investigation.
“We’ve not stopped. We are analyzing all documents and information provided by COAF [Council for Financial Activities Control], the Federal Revenue Service, and control agencies. The committee’s head added, “We will notify all members so that we can prioritize the committee’s agendas.”
According to the Brazilian Senate press agency, the commission has previously accepted multiple requests for financial information, including intelligence reports from COAF.
These reports often contain sensitive financial information about individuals or businesses, thus accessing them may constitute a breach of confidentially. The list comprises influencers and corporate personalities in the betting market.

“We will undoubtedly carry out very important work, particularly to safeguard individuals, prevent capital flight, and ensure that these betting activities effectively pay taxes that can be allocated to health, education, and security.
“They make a lot of money and either don’t pay taxes or pay very little,” the senator stated.
The Commission was constituted on November 12 and is chaired by Senator Soraya Thronicke. By the end of 2024, the senator had reported attacks on the committee’s image.
Soraya claimed to have been threatened and stated that the committee will continue its investigations till the end.
In 2025, she stated that one of the priorities will be to hear from influencers who utilize their social media networks to promote online gambling. The committee’s work is slated to expire on April 30, barring any delays.
