According to GeoComply, active player accounts at online sportsbooks grew by 14% year on year following the Philadelphia Eagles’ crushing victory over the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX on Sunday.
According to the geolocation services provider, the average growth rate of active accounts was twice as high in regions where authorities had taken enforcement action against illegal offshore sportsbooks than in states that had not.
Since the previous Super Bowl, 14 states have served cease-and-desist orders against at least one large illicit bookmaker.
Sportsbooks reveal standout betting activity
A handful of sportsbooks disclosed their own findings from their systems’ betting activity.
Super Bowl LIX broke records on FanDuel Sportsbook, which received over 16.6 million bets on the game from roughly three million active users. That was a 19% rise over previous year. Customer activity reached around 70,000 bets every minute.
According to Flutter, FanDuel’s parent business, about three million individuals gambled on the Super Bowl.

Almost two million fans voted in the third round of FanDuel’s Kick of Destiny tournament. Customers who correctly predicted Eli Manning would defeat his brother Peyton received an equal share of $10 million in bonus bets.
Meanwhile, BetMGM has confirmed that Super Bowl LIX was the single most popular betting event in the sportsbook’s history, as well as “one of the best single game results in company history.”
Caesars Sportsbook claimed strong Super Bowl results despite neither Saquon Barkley nor Travis Kelce scoring a touchdown.
“Overall, Super Bowl LIX was a decent result for the sportsbook, as more customers backed the Chiefs in this game and futures pool than the Eagles,” said Joey Feazel, Caesars Sportsbook’s head of football.
“There were a variety of touchdown scorers, which would usually be favorable to the customers, but unfortunately Saquon Barkley was the most popular SGP leg and he did not see the end zone.”
