According to a National Police Agency poll, 3.37 million Japanese citizens have gambled at internet casinos, according to The Asahi Shimbun newspaper.

Approximately JPY1.24 trillion (US$8.39 billion) in wagers were made at online gambling sites each year, according to data from the poll, which is reportedly the first of its kind in the nation.

According to the poll results, which were made public on Thursday, 75.2% of players who visited free online casinos went on to play the paid versions and wager real money.

According to the data, 59.6% of survey respondents who played at online casinos admitted to having a gambling addiction.

The Asahi Shimbun claims that it is illegal to wager on online gambling sites, including those that are regulated, from within Japan.

According to a National Police Agency spokesman cited in the article, the poll “highlights the prevalence of illegal gambling” throughout the nation, describing the situation as “extremely serious.”
